SickFirst of all, I'm a bit on the sick side. It was much worst over the past two days; mostly coughing, running nose, and a bit feverish. Now I'm a bit better, my nose isn't as runny and I just have a bit of a headache from a fever. I think I caught it at Comic Con because my brother was also sick (he spent pretty much all of yesterday sleeping).
Any who, onto the fandom-y goodness! Our assignment for this week at #
deviant365 is to create a feature journal revolving around our favourite fandom. I asked the moderator if it was all right to group fandoms into one journal (as to not spam you -my dearest- watchers with separate journals) and it's okay! As a result, I'll keep it to my top ten favourite fandoms and feature six pieces of art from them ^_^!
1) Lord of the Rings & The HobbitI read The Hobbit at least seven times when I was younger and really go into the Tolkien universe when we had The Hobbit as a computer and PS2 game (the original computer CD is SO scratched up!). I remember seeing The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at the local cinema while Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released. My parents watched Lord of the Rings and -because we knew the cinema owners- me and my siblings watched The Jimmy Neutron Movie, watched a bit of Lord of the Rings, watched Harry Potter, and watched the end of Lord of the Rings. It's pretty startling to go from a giant-headed kid genius to watching a cave troll attack Frodo!
Side Note: My favourite dwarf from The Hobbit is Bombour (I can relate with his appetite ^_^). My favourite Lord of the Rings character is a tie between Aragorn and Merry.
2) Harry PotterOne of my favourite memories as a child was having my parents read Harry Potter to us before we went to bed. Actually, it was this series that got me in the most trouble for staying up late to read it (especially after going to a midnight release to get the newest books). This series is what made me love reading, and it opened my eyes to the world of special effects (the Quidditch match in the first movie was mind-blowing to see in theatres!).
Side Note: My favourite book and movie of the series has always been the Prisoner of Azkaban. It's probably because it has the most scenes with my favourite Harry Potter character: Professor Remus Lupin. After watching the movie, I was a scared that Dementors would get me after I turned off the lights to go to bed!
3) Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesThough I was a little too young to watch the 1987 version when it was on air, the 2003 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favourite cartoons to wake up to on Saturday mornings. The 2012 version of this ninja epic is amazing and I'm addicted to watching the episodes as they air as much as I was when the 2003 version was airing.
Side Note: in the 2003 version Donatello was my favourite turtle and April O'Neil was my favourite character (because I thought it would be awesome to get to hang out with the Turtles) in the 2012 version I can't choose which turtle is my favourite because I love them all!
4) Kingdom HeartsI was hesitant when first approached by the concept of merging Final Fantasy and Disney into a video game, but after playing the first game I feel in love with the fandom.
Side Note: Out of the keyblade wielders my favourite is Aqua. Out of the Organization XIII members, it's a running three-way tie between Axel, Larxene, and Demyx.
5) Blizzard Worlds (WarCraft, StarCraft & Diablo)I decided to group these three game universes together because it was too hard to choose just one of them. I love each of these game series for the scope of the worlds, amazing character development, and in-depth stories. When I was younger, I watched my brother play through all of the campaigns before I played any of them, except for Diablo III (which I played alongside him).
Side Note: My favourite races to play are orcs, protoss, and night elves (though for whatever reason I don't really like the Blademaster orcish hero). My favourite classes to play are wizard/sorceress, assassin, and witch doctor. My favourite characters are Zeratul, Jaina Proudmoore, Sarah Kerrigan, Warchief Thrall, and Tyrael.
6) Kung Fu PandaMy favourite Dreamworks movie, one of my favourite animated movies of all time. The style and character designs are superb. I love the characters as they each undergo development either throughout the original movie or through the spin off movie/sequel/television series. The sequel was actually much better than I had anticipated it to be; I hope the same can be said for the third one.
Side Note: My favourite character is definitely Master Shifu. I love his sense of humour and he's a red panda!
7) BatmanBatman: The Animated Series was one of my favourite cartoons to watch growing up. The character development and atmosphere of Gotham City were fantastic. It's one of the reasons that I got interested in animation. I also loved Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy as well as the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City video games.
Side Note: I generally am more intrigue by the villains in the Batman universe than the heroes. My favourite is Harley Quinn.
8) League of LegendsOne of my favourite aspects of this game is that it's continually growing. There are always new champions being added to the game and the game lore is expansive. I love being able to explore different sides to the champions as well as to get to learn more about the history of the universe that they live in.
Side Note: As far as playing the actual game, I like playing AD Carries (Miss Fortune & Sivir) but also have a lot of fun with AP Mids (Brand, Ziggs & Ahri). Lately, I'm getting more into support roles (Maokai, Soraka & Sona). I suck at jungling. T_T
9) Avatar: The Last Airbender & Legend of KorraAgain, before actually watching the first series I was hesitant because I wasn't too keen on anime at the time. However one of my friends convinced me otherwise and I immediately fell in love with the series. Given the circumstances of the sequel series, yes it was rushed however they didn't know how many seasons they were going to be given, so it's all right (I just wish we could've seen more Pro-Bending, but it looks like we will on the second season!).
Side Note: Uncle Iroh is without a doubt my favourite character!
10) Disney Animated MoviesReally a giant catchall for my obsession over animated Disney movies because I can barely pick a top ten from Disney movies, much less my number one fandom! It's these movies that have sparked my interest in drawing and my continuing passion towards working in animation.
Side Note: When I was younger, my favourite Disney Princess was Ariel because I thought it would be awesome to live under the sea and be able to breathe underwater. Now it's a running tie between Mulan and Belle
